If you are anything like me (a reality TV fiend), then you are most likely up-to-date on the new Love Island UK All-Stars season. Or if you’re really like me, you’ve started it and never got the chance to finish because you remembered you had responsibilities other than rotting on your couch with your sisters yelling “THAT WAS SO MUGGY!”
Either way, I’m sure you’re full of opinions on the on-goings of the season; the drama between Elma, Kaz, and Ronnie; the drama between Ekin-Su and Curtis; the drama between Elma, Ekin-su, and Sammy. Should I continue, or do you get the point?
While I can’t say that I have not also been enthralled by these plotlines, I have to say I am much more interested in the revelations that went down during the first episode. The only question I have for you is: was I the only one blindsided by the reason Gabby and Marcel broke up?
Now, there is a good chance you have no idea what I am talking about. Let me set the scene for you: you’re watching Love Island UK season 3, a man named Marcel is a member of the original group, and you immediately like him because nobody stepped forward to couple up with him (who doesn’t love an underdog?). Throughout the first week, you watch this man have not the best time in the villa, and yet you continue to root for him because of his positive attitude and the fact that he is so encouraging and nice to his fellow contestants.
However, holding out hope has worked, and on day 7 Marcel’s dreams come true when a new contestant, Gabby, enters the villa. The couple hits it off almost immediately, quickly becoming the “it couple” of the house where all the other contestants turn to for relationship advice when needed. This resulted in the iconic recurring joke by the show’s hilarious narrator, Iain Stirling, where he would sing “PAGING DR. MARCEL” when someone wanted to speak to the beloved contestant. This couple even ended up as one of the final couples, placing 4th overall.
After this happy little story, you’re probably wondering why I am talking about a completely different Love Island season. Well, bad news kids—love is dead. Not only did Gabby and Marcel break up not even a year after leaving the idealistic island villa, but the reasons behind the break-up permanently altered my Love Island experience. In the first episode of Love Island All-Stars season 2, we learn that Marcel cheated on Gabby while they were on a vacation in Mexico. He cheated on her with a woman who was staying in their hotel while Gabby was elsewhere on the resort, and allegedly agreed to meet the woman again while Gabby was at the gym the next day.
This information has been out for years (unbeknownst to me), however, that wasn’t the end of Marcel’s downright foul actions. When being questioned about the scandal, it comes out that he told others that Gabby and his relationship was just a “showmance” and claimed that their relationship was just 7 months. In reality, they dated for a little over a year.
Ultimately, I still will be finishing this season as fast as humanly possible—even though I have already spoiled the winners for myself. Spoiler alert: Gabby wins with her new man—one that was obsessed with her since day 1—while Marcel was one of the first contestants sent home. Moral of the story: karma is a bitch; stay winning.
