Columnist

My name is Hermeline (Hermy) Berteloot, I am an English and Criminal Justice double major. When I’m not writing, you can find me reading, baking/cooking, or channeling my love for music through some very bad guitar playing. I also love spending time outside, whether it’s hiking with my dog Khoda or volunteering on a farm. My column focuses on analyzing TikTok trends, focusing on one of its subcultures: BookTok. I explore how TikTok not only drives the popularity of certain books but also shapes the way we discuss and interpret them. Through this lens, I share my own opinions–whether they align with or challenge the prevailing conversations on BookTok–offering insights into what the platform gets right, what it misses, and how it influences readers.
